Lawyers from seven provinces in China were hosted by the Firm in New York City for a day of discussing practice areas and getting acquainted. The event began with a tour of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York where the 13 members of the group observed a jury trial, a status conference involving Mandarin interpreters for each defendant, and a motion argument in a copyright proceeding. U.S. District Judge Richard Sullivan presided over the copyright matter. Afterwards, he met with the delegation in the jury room and answered questions. The lawyers also visited the New York State Supreme Court. During a luncheon which followed at the Firm’s offices, members of the Firm gave presentations to the delegation on an illustrative acquisition of a U.S. company by a Chinese joint venture located in the British Virgin Islands as well as related practice areas of the Firm. The Firm was very pleased that the delegation was led by Qi “Jason” Jiang of Beijing who had been a stagiaire with the Firm. The photos below show some highlights.
